Our Team

Dr. Darran Kim is an optometrist and owner of Silver Lake Eye Care Center in Everett, Washington. He provides comprehensive eye exams, medical eye care, and advanced diagnosis and management of eye diseases including glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and dry eye disease.

Born and raised in Maui, Hawaii, Dr. Kim discovered his passion for eye care while working as an optometric technician during high school and college. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology, then received his Doctorate of Optometry from Pacific University College of Optometry. He completed his clinical training with honors at Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute, Kaiser Permanente, and the Lebanon Veteran Affairs Medical Center.

Dr. Kim began his career in Maui County, Hawaii, managing complex eye diseases and regularly traveling to provide care to underserved communities in Hana and Lanai. He returned to Washington in 2021, and became the owner of Silver Lake Eye Care Center in 2023. Since then, he has built a technology-driven practice focused on advanced diagnostics, early disease detection, and specialized optometric care to deliver exceptional outcomes for every patient.

Dr. Kim offers radiofrequency and intense pulsed light treatments for dry eye, along with specialty contact lens fittings, including scleral lenses for patients with keratoconus and irregular corneas. He also prescribes Neurolens to help patients with binocular vision disorders that may contribute to headaches, eye strain, reading difficulty, and visual discomfort.

Outside of work, Dr. Kim enjoys golfing, traveling, reading, listening to podcasts, and learning about topics such as history, economics, and astronomy.

Dr. Katy Tan is an optometrist at Silver Lake Eye Care Center in Everett, Washington, providing personalized, evidence-based eye care for patients of all ages. She specializes in comprehensive eye exams, medical eye care, ocular disease management, myopia management, dry eye treatment, and ocular aesthetics. Dr. Tan offers innovative dry eye therapies including amniotic membrane, radiofrequency, and intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment.

Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Dr. Tan earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with Honors from the University of British Columbia before receiving her Doctor of Optometry from Pacific University College of Optometry. She graduated with distinction and Beta Sigma Kappa honors, and served as a member of the college's admissions board and as a clinical skills mentor for optometry students.

Dr. Tan has practiced in diverse clinical settings throughout the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia before joining Silver Lake Eye Care Center in 2023. She is known for building strong relationships with her patients through thoughtful communication and a proactive approach to preventing and managing eye conditions.

Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Tan has volunteered internationally with VOSH International, providing eye care to underserved rural communities in Cambodia, and has supported local organizations including the Lions Club and Seattle/King County Clinic. Outside of the office, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, exploring new cuisines, and thrift shopping.

Dr. Kathy Nguyen was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, and earned her Doctorate of Optometry at Pacific University College of Optometry. Her clinical training was completed at Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation in Alaska, a large Ophthalmology practice in New Jersey, and the Lexington Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Kentucky.

Dr. Nguyen went on to complete an Optometric Residency in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at Kaiser Permanente in Tacoma, Washington. She then practiced on Vancouver Island, providing comprehensive eye care in private practice while also traveling to remote First Nations communities. After several years, she relocated back to Seattle to be closer to her husband’s roots in the area.

Beyond her time in clinic, Dr Nguyen is dedicated to public service and has volunteered abroad with VOSH International to Costa Rica and China. While in China, she led a team of Doctors and students and collaborated with the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, one of the most prestigious eye hospitals in China. Dr. Nguyen has also contributed to the field of Optometry through research, authoring multiple conference posters presented at the American Academy of Optometry.

In her free time, Dr. Nguyen loves to spend time exploring the hiking trails and local eats in the Seattle metro area, cooking and reading.
